Ohio-based artist, designer, and interior designer, Britta finds that the most inspired, creative projects often exist in the overlap between disciplines. Whether it’s the union of design and wellness, space and art, or environment and materials, she loves the innovation that comes from collaborating across modalities, with clients, with her fellow creatives, and with the earth.

Britta studied painting, sculpture, performance art, and psychology at the University of Virginia. After graduation she completed an Aunspaugh Fellowship with the University while exhibiting work locally and holding multidisciplinary art performances in New York City. Britta began her transition from art towards design first through residential decorating and staging, then returning to Virginia Commonwealth University to earn her an MFA in Interior Environments. Working as a project manager at award-winning Architecture firms and teaching interior design at her alma mater, VCU, Britta built a foundation of interior + object design and education.

Britta decided to step away from the firm environment to make more space for teaching and developing independent and collaborative projects working with clients on their art and design visions. She also spent time helping co-found okom wrks labs and teaching Interior Design in California, before returning eastward to teach Interior Design as an Assistant Professor at Kent State University. In addition to teaching she continues to work with clients, expand her art practice, and develop materials research and installations that can offer more regenerative and healthier alternatives for the built environment.
